When making roman shades I sometimes have trouble
with them hanging completely straight. I make sure my rings
are even horizontally and vertically. What could be the problem?
Your shade is probably not “square”. Use a carpenter’s
square to check this. You have to cut the shade perfectly
square and then make sure it finishes square.
My client wants the shade to hang flat 12”,
before showing the folds. What should my cut length be?
The cut length will be the same as the pattern states. You
can arrange the size of the folds any way you wish. The cut
length is simply the flat area, plus hems.
Why do you recommend “slats” in the shades,
and what are they?
The slats we refer to are called screen molding. They are
small, thin strips of wood available at home improvement centers.
It is used to help keep the fold straight when pulled up and
down. Some workrooms use “ribs” these are available

Can I put roman shades in a bay window?
Yes, but you must have at least 4” clearance between
them at the corners, so they will have room to stack.
I need to make a shade for an arched window. How
do I mount and install it?
Our “Workroom
Manual Collection” can answer those questions. It
is too much information for us to give you here.
