Bordeaux Valance 9208 Print

This pattern was revised in 2010. If you don’t have the latest pattern you may return your used pattern for the new one at 1/2 price. If your pattern is unused there is no charge, except the shipping cost.

The valance sections can be 20” or up to 28” wide without having to alter. Depth alteration instructions are included for all pieces. Interlining instructions and hook and loop tape instructions are also included.

I need the valance section to be wider than 28”, how can I alter them?
Sizes wider than 28” cannot support the shallow pleat. It will fall out. Sizes smaller than 20” wide will cause the pleat to be too tight. If desired, you can do a mock up to experiment with adjusting the pleat.

Should I cut this valance on the bias?
No. A bias cut will not be effective.

Can I use a stripe fabric on the valance?
Stripes are fine for the valance. The jabot and tail has a curve shape. Stripes will hang at a variety of angles. It is not an attractive look.

The instructions require the mount board to have “legs”. If I am not using the jabot, do I still have to use the “ legs”?
Yes. The legs are not there for the jabots, they are needed to give the valance something to attach to at the sides.

BAY WINDOWS

For a bay window, do I need “legs” at the inside corners?
No. Make the bay mount board in one piece. Have “legs” at the outside ends only. Make the valance in one piece. Plan for a tail to be at the inside corners.

My bay window is 36”, 42”, and 36”, total 3 windows. How many and what size swags would you do for each window? Could you also tell me how much yardage I would need?
Are these the wall measurements? If so, you need to make the mount board first, then measure the front of it. Make the valance by that size. It will be smaller than the wall measurement. The measurements you list are outside the range of the pattern.

Altering the pattern means you will have to make it larger. You will have to redraw the curve lines. You will also have to change the angle on the pleat. If you can do all that successfully, it will hang fine. I can’t give you instruction as to how. That is why the patttern has size limits. Patterns 9211 and 9261 are pretty for a bay window.

It is against our policy to figure yardage for you. If you need help understanding how, go to our web site and click on “yardge”.
