This pattern was revised in 1999. If you don’t
have the latest pattern you may return your used pattern for
a new one at ½ price. If your pattern is unused there
is no charge, except shipping cost.
I would like to add a cord. Should I add the cord
to each piece before or after sewing together?
Sew the cord to the valance after pieces have been sewn together,
and before lining is added. The cord goes at the bottom seam
only.
What is the difference between the Imperial Valance
and the Sheffield
Valance?
The Imperial has a tapered horn. The Sheffield has a straight
pleat.
Can I railroad the valance?
This valance can’t be railroaded. It is important that
each piece be cut on the straight of grain. This includes
lining.
Are the jabots part of the valance or are they made
separately?
The jabot sews into the valance, but can be made separate.
I need to know which return I should use.
There is only one return pattern included, the size depends
on the projection of your mount board.
What type of board do I use for the Imperial Valance.
A simple “shelf” is all that is needed. The size
depends on the projection you need. If you are installing
over draperies you need a 5 ½” projection. If
not, you can use a smaller projection.
Can I rework the pattern to make an inverted pleat?
No, the Imperial can not be converted to an inverted pleat.
You may want to use 9263
Charleston Valance.
I’m using the Imperial for a bay window. What
should my flat section sizes be?
Make the board and valance in one piece. Plan for a horn to
be at the inside corners. Subtract 1 ½” from
each end of the board only. You must figure the side sections
size. Then you figure the middle sections size, keeping them
as close to the same size as possible. It is to be expected
they won’t be the same. Clip the horn on top of the
board to help it turn the corner.
